You’re the one everyone looks to for answers, the one who closes the deals, the one who navigates the politics, and the one who keeps the family unit running smoothly. But inside? Inside, your nervous system is screaming at a frequency only you can hear!
What If I Tell You... that the very drive that made you a high achiever is currently the thing keeping you trapped in a cycle of overwhelm?
I’ve been there. I’ve lived in three different countries, navigated the high-stakes worlds of law and international politics, and raised my beautiful children while building businesses from the ground up! I know what it’s like to have a "successful" life on paper while your body feels like a live wire that’s been dropped in a puddle.
It is exhausting! But here is the truth: You cannot lead effectively when you are stuck in survival mode. You might be "getting things done," but you aren’t LEADING. You’re just reacting.
Today, we are going to talk about how to move from that state of "Intuitive Survival" into a place of "Intentional Growth." Because you deserve more than just surviving your own success!
The Trap of Intuitive Survival ✦
For most high performers, "Intuitive Survival" is our default setting! It’s the collection of habits, reflexes, and trauma responses that helped us win in the past. Maybe you learned early on that being the smartest person in the room kept you safe. Maybe you learned that "doing it all yourself" was the only way to ensure quality.
These are survival strategies! And while they got you to the C-suite or the founder’s chair, they are now the very things causing your nervous system to SCREAM.
When your nervous system is activated, you aren’t using your prefrontal cortex, the part of your brain responsible for logic, long-term planning, and empathy. Instead, you are operating from your amygdala. You are in Fight, Flight, Freeze, or Fawn!
Fight: You become snappy, irritable, and overly critical of your team.
Flight: You avoid the big, scary tasks by obsessing over tiny, insignificant emails.
Freeze: You sit at your desk for four hours staring at a screen, unable to make a single decision.
Fawn: You say "yes" to every request because you’re terrified of disappointing anyone, even though you’re already at a breaking point.
Does any of this sound familiar? If so, don’t beat yourself up! Your brain is just trying to protect you. But it’s time to tell your brain that you are safe now. It’s time to rewire!
Rewiring for Intentional Growth
Intentional Growth is about CLARITY and IDENTITY. It’s about knowing exactly who you are outside of your achievements!
When I work with my clients, we focus heavily on nervous system regulation. You cannot think your way out of a nervous system collapse; you have to feel your way out! We use trauma-release techniques to discharge that stored energy so you can actually breathe again.

You might see me post this phrase everywhere, and there is a reason for it! Happiness Is Free!!! It isn’t something you earn after you hit your next $1M milestone. It isn’t something you get once the kids are in college. It is a state of being that you can access RIGHT NOW, regardless of the chaos in your inbox!
When I say Happiness Is Free!!!, I am giving you permission to drop the weight of the world!
High performers often tie their joy to their output. If the business is up, they are happy. If the business is down, they are miserable. That is a dangerous way to live! By adopting the "Happiness Is Free!!!" mindset, you decouple your internal state from your external circumstances.
This is the ultimate leadership hack! A leader who is inherently happy and grounded is unfazed by market shifts or internal friction. They lead with warmth, curiosity, and steadiness.
How do you practice this?
Stop the Glorification of Busy: Being "slammed" isn't a badge of honor; it's a sign of a dysregulated system!
Find the Micro-Joys: Whether it’s a three-minute dance break in your office or a really good cup of coffee, claim your joy aggressively!
Choose Your State First: Decide how you want to feel before you open your laptop.
Justice-Aligned Healing and Leadership
We cannot talk about leadership without talking about JUSTICE. As a leader, you are responsible for the culture you create. If your own nervous system is screaming, you are likely creating a culture where everyone else’s nervous system is screaming too!
Justice-aligned healing means recognizing that our personal trauma is often tied to systemic issues. When we heal ourselves, we become better equipped to dismantle unfair systems within our organizations! We lead with more empathy, we see the humanity in our team members, and we stop using "high performance" as a weapon of exclusion.
True leadership is about creating a space where everyone feels safe enough to perform at their best. And that starts with YOU feeling safe in your own body!

Strategies for the Overwhelmed Leader ✦
If you are reading this and your heart is racing right now, I want you to try these three things:
1. The Strategic Pause A leader who responds instantly is often a leader who responds poorly! Give yourself permission to wait. If a situation feels urgent, that is usually a sign that your nervous system is triggered. Take ten slow breaths. Walk away from the screen. A well-thought-out plan beats a reactive one every single time!
2. Ruthless Prioritization of Capacity You are not a machine! You have a finite amount of energy. Take a look at your calendar. What are you doing that someone else could, and should, be doing? Delegation isn't just about clearing your plate; it’s about giving your team the chance to grow. Save your "High Performance" energy for the 5% of tasks that actually require your unique brilliance!
3. Establish Identity Outside of Work Who are you when you aren't "The CEO" or "The Leader"? If you don't know the answer, that’s where we start! Reconnect with your hobbies, your movement, and your community. For me, sometimes that means getting out on the golf course and just being in the green! It’s about balance!
